Design and operation simulators

In this area, the research activities have been focused on the development of:

  • Dynamic simulator for WWTP design with nitrogen removal. DAISY 2.0. (Subsidised by the Regional Council of Vizcaya).
  • General purpose simulator for the design of wastewater treatment plants, with nutrient removal and optimisation module based on effluent requirements. DAISY 3.0. (Subsidised by the INTEK Programme (Basque Government) and CDTI (MINER)).
  • Simulator of discontinuous processes (alternating and sequential) with organic matter and nutrient removal from wastewater (Subsidised by the INTEK Programme (Basque Government) and CDTI (MINER)).
  • Operation simulator for the optimisation of the operation of a WWTP based on use in a real case. Badiolegui WWTP (Azpeitia). (Subsidised by the INTEK Programme (Basque Government) and ATYCA (MINER)).

Images of the simulatorThis line of research enables us to have tools for the optimisation of the WWTP dimensioning and operation, which include activated sludge systems, both continuous and discontinuous, for the biodegradation of organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorous.
