The Guadalajara WWTP was designed and built and not only complies with the requirements imposed by the European Directive on the treatment of municipal waste water, it is also very effective in removing nutrients using biological methods, in accordance with the requirements of the Hydrological Program of the Tajo, which is even more restrictive in this regard than European legislation.

Since the plant was inaugurated, the environmental quality of the river Henares has notably improved, which helps in local social and economic development thanks to its respect for the natural environment.
