Since it was inaugurated in 2008, the Ronda WWTP has been a milestone in the conservation of the natural surroundings of the river Guadalevín.

One especially notable feature is the recovery of waters in the section between the city of Ronda and the village of La Indiana. Otters and several species of fish have returned to live in parts of the river that were uninhabited because of previous contamination.
