Melilla Desalination Plant

The Melilla desalination plant commenced operations in 2007 under a 12 year concession agreement with the Ministry of the Environment.

The facility is an essential part of the supply infrastructure for the City of Melilla, due in part to the problems of drought in the region.

The facility has been operating since it started 10 years ago, at full production, and often operates above its nominal production levels.

Type of treatment

Reverse osmosis, open inlet and energy recovery with turbines.
