Projects

Ever since its inception, the R+D+i department of Cadagua has carried out a large number of R+D+i project of many different sizes, from major investments in mid and long term R+D+i projects to small innovative activities in conjunction with the production line. Financing has been both internal and external, regardless of the aim of the projects.

Some of the most representative projects of Cadagua that have been completed or are still underway can be seen below:

FERROAQUA

Management of the information from the water plants is carried out independently and manually, and is supplied by plant managers to the company departments that ask for it. Cadagua has developed a platform that centralises and groups data from different sources and at the same time incorporates, unifies and compares data from different plants. This project, called Ferroaqua, enables gains to be made in efficiency, cost savings and market differentiation.

The main aim is to provide the most efficient management of the plants, that respects the environment and has a major capacity to respond to different situations, as well as making a system available that not only reinforces the position of leadership occupied by Cadagua in the sector but that also consolidates it as a leading edge technology provider.

 

The Ferroaqua platform is currently running at three water treatment plants: Desalination Plant of Valdelentisco, WWTP of San Pedro del Pinatar and WWTP of San Javier, the first of which is owned by acuaMed and the other two by ESAMUR.

DRY4GAS

Waste Water sludge solar DRYing FOR energy recovery through gasification GAS

DRY4GAS proposes the study of a environmentally sustainable technological solution solution for treating and managing sludge generated in a WWTP. The solution shall include a solar drying system, gasification treatment and an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), as an energy harnessing process (production of electricity and heat). It shall provide an alternative to traditional agricultural valorization of sewage, by assessing the quality and effect on the soil of the pre-treated sludge, dried and amended with gasification ashes.

BrineRecovery

Seawater Desalination Brine Stream Byproduct Recovery and Valorization Options

Seawater desalination plants currently consume large amounts of soda in (NaOH) in the seawater desalination process. The BrineRecovery project sets out to evaluate the possibility of reducing the economic and environmental cost this causes.

The project is framed within the scope of the circular economy and analyses the technical-economic feasibility of recovering and harnessing products from the brine of the SWDP that can be used in operating such facilities (i.e., sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid).

MEMBACE

System of UF membranes for eliminating bacteria resistant to antibiotics and emerging contaminants

This project is part of the strategic line of increasing the technological offer available for the treatment of water intended for human consumption. And in particular to the development of processes focused on the elimination of emerging contaminants and bacteria resistant to antibiotics. This action is part of the priority objectives of Cadagua’s Strategic Plan, with reference to R&D&I activities.

The MEMBACE project uses Ultrafiltration membranes associated with advanced oxidation processes and adsorption in Active Carbon as an effective system for the elimination of biological contamination, organic matter and suspended matter present in water. Its objective is to ensure supply from unconventional sources and the treatability of contaminants for which conventional drinking water treatment plants are not designed or adapted.
